Market comparison
Lets keyboard-first Chrome users jump to any open tab by typing a few letters, or flip back to their last tab by holding Alt and tapping Q, without clicking through tab bars.
About
Hold Alt and tap Q to see your most recent tabs in most-recently-used order; release to switch, or tap once to jump straight back to your last tab. Press Alt+K on any page and type to search your open tabs: Enter switches to the tab instead of opening a duplicate, a URL goes there, anything else searches the web. Press Tab on an empty bar for actions such as copy URL, copy as Markdown, pin, duplicate, move to a new window and reopen a closed tab. History and bookmark search and tab previews are optional and off until you turn them on. Everything runs on your computer: no account, no tracking, no analytics. Free to use.
Key Features
- Search open tabs by typing a few letters, then press Enter to switch
- Hold Alt and tap Q to flip between recent tabs in order of use
- Press Tab on an empty command bar to copy the URL or a Markdown link
- Pin, duplicate, or move a tab to a new window from the same actions list
- Reopen recently closed tabs without reaching for the mouse
- Reassign Ctrl+Tab or Cmd+T at chrome for //extensions/shortcuts
Use Cases
- Jumping back to the tab you were just on by holding Alt and tapping Q without touching the mouse
- Finding a tab that is already open by typing a few letters so Enter switches instead of opening a duplicate
- Copying a tab's URL as Markdown or reopening a closed tab from the tab bar
From the founder
Who it's for
“People who keep lots of tabs open in Chrome and want to get back to the right one from the keyboard: flip to the last tab with Alt+Q, or type a few letters with Alt+K to find any open tab.”
Why I built it
“Browser Chores is a solo maker of small browser tools. Chrome has no shortcut to jump back to your previous tab or to search the tabs you already have open, so Tab Launcher adds both. It runs entirely on your computer, with no account and no tracking.”
Who it is for
- Keyboard-first Chrome users who want to switch tabs without the mouse
Pricing
Tab Launcher is free to use. See the website for details.
FAQ
Can I use Ctrl+Tab or Cmd+T instead?
Chrome doesn't let extensions take those keys by default, but you can assign them yourself at chrome://extensions/shortcuts . The settings page walks you through it.
Does it work on chrome:// pages and the Web Store?
Yes. Chrome doesn't let extensions draw over those pages, so there the command bar opens in its own small window instead.
What does it do with my tabs and history?
Nothing leaves your computer. It reads tab titles and addresses to show results, and only searches history and bookmarks if you turn that on. No accounts, no analytics. Privacy policy .
Is it free?
Yes, with no paid tier. It's open source (MIT).
