FAQ
How does team member pricing work?
Each plan includes a set number of team members: 2 on Free, 3 on Builder, 5 on Team and 10 on Business, with custom counts on Enterprise. Additional members beyond that are $29 each per month, and you can add or remove them at any time. Workspace plans pool team members across every Project, with 10 included on Small and 30 on Large.
Is there a free trial?
Workspace plans start with a 30-day free trial, and nothing is charged until it ends. Project plans do not have a trial, because the Free plan already lets you build the real thing without a time limit and without a card: a Bucket, 1,000 Objects, the full API and a working agent. Most people evaluate on Free and move to a paid plan when they need more capacity rather than more time.
What are Projects, Buckets and Objects?
A Project is your workspace for one product or site, and it is what a plan applies to. Inside it, Buckets are separate content environments, commonly one each for development, staging and production. Objects are the individual pieces of content in a Bucket: a blog post, a product, a landing page. Plan limits are stated in these units, so "3 Buckets and 20,000 Objects" means three environments holding twenty thousand content items between them. All locale versions of an Object count as one, so translations do not consume extra capacity.
What happens if I go over my plan limits?
Your content keeps serving. For Objects, Buckets, API traffic and media, usage above the allowance is charged at the published per-unit rate and appears on your next invoice, so a busy month costs a little more instead of forcing you onto a bigger plan. You can watch it accrue in Project Settings and see the running cost in your billing details. The one exception is Insights analytics events, which are capped rather than metered without limit: we warn you at 80% of your allowance and stop recording new events at 200% so a traffic spike cannot produce a runaway bill. Your site and API are unaffected when that happens, and recording resumes when your billing cycle resets or you upgrade.
What counts as an API request?
Any read or write to the Cosmic API, including requests from your site, your app, the CLI, the SDKs and the MCP server. Cached and uncached requests are metered separately because they cost very different amounts to serve: a cached read is a tenth the price of an uncached one. Most production traffic is cached, which is why the allowances for cached requests are much larger.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Plans are month to month with no contract and no cancellation fee, and you can cancel from your billing settings whenever you like. You keep access for the rest of the period you have already paid for. We do not prorate refunds for a partial month, so cancelling mid-cycle does not generate a credit.
Do I need a credit card to start?
Not for the Free plan, which needs no card at any point. Starting a trial on a paid plan does require a card so the plan can continue without interruption when the trial ends, but nothing is charged during the trial and you can cancel before it finishes.
Can I pay yearly?
Yes, and yearly billing saves 10% on the plan price. Each plan shows its yearly equivalent alongside the monthly figure. The discount applies to the plan itself and to feature add-ons; metered usage above your allowances is always billed monthly at the published rate, since we cannot discount usage that has not happened yet.
Can we be invoiced, or pay by purchase order?
Enterprise agreements can be set up with invoicing, purchase orders and custom payment terms, and that is part of the conversation with our sales team. Self-serve plans bill through Stripe on a card or a supported payment method.
Do you offer discounts for nonprofits, education or early-stage startups?
We do not run a standard discount program, but we would rather hear from you than have you rule us out. If you are a nonprofit, an educational institution or a very early-stage startup, email support@cosmicjs.com and tell us what you are building.
