No, you do not need to register a credit card to use the Free plan. Once you successfully create and log in to your TwelveLabs account, you can start using the Free plan immediately.

When you switch from the Free plan to the Developer plan, any existing index that has not reached the 90-day limit is automatically granted unlimited access. You can continue using that index for as long as you remain on the Developer plan.

All new TwelveLabs accounts are automatically enrolled in the Free plan. You can upgrade to the Developer plan at any time by registering a credit card and selecting the Developer plan from the Dashboard. Your account is never upgraded automatically based on usage, and you do not need to consume all 600 free minutes before upgrading.

The Free plan includes 600 minutes of video indexing at no cost. This represents the total amount of video you can upload and index on the platform. The limit is cumulative, so deleting indexes or uploaded videos does not restore or reduce the total minutes that have already been used.

If you delete your account or one or more indexes, you remain responsible for any applicable service fees, including indexing and infrastructure fees for Developer plans, until the deletion takes effect. Deletion is immediate and cannot be reversed.

The infrastructure fee covers the services required to generate, manage, and maintain embeddings used for downstream capabilities such as semantic search and video-to-text analysis.

To downgrade, log in to your Dashboard, navigate to Billing, select Cancel Enrollment, and follow the on-screen instructions before selecting Proceed. After downgrading, indexes expire 90 days after their creation date, and the platform retains your cumulative indexed video duration without resetting it.

Index access refers to the length of time TwelveLabs retains your indexed data, including indexing settings and video vectors. On the Free plan, each index is retained for up to 90 days from creation. Once that period expires, the indexed data is permanently removed and cannot be restored. To continue using an index beyond 90 days, upgrade to the Developer plan.

If you upgrade from the Free plan to the Developer plan, infrastructure fees are charged from the upgrade date through the end of the current billing cycle. If you downgrade from the Developer plan to the Free plan, you are billed only for the portion of the billing cycle during which your Developer plan remained active.
