About
Account names and secrets are encrypted before they are stored, and with iCloud sync on, only encrypted records travel through iCloud Keychain while the decryption key stays on your devices. The app makes no network requests, collects no telemetry, and includes no third-party code, and its design, reviews, and hardware tests are published openly. It has not had a professional independent security audit, so the maker advises keeping an encrypted backup elsewhere and testing restores before you need them. It deliberately omits a Mac app, browser extension, and password autofill, since it is only an authenticator.

Key Features
- Shows one code at a time on Apple Watch and keeps working with the iPhone off or out of range
- Imports Google Authenticator transfer codes and Aegis vaults into the app
- Scans codes with the Camera app or shares an image in without saving it to Photos
- Exports encrypted backups in a documented public format or as a plain file
- Requires Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode before codes appear when App Lock is enabled
Use Cases
- Generating two-factor codes on an iPhone and reading them from an Apple Watch without carrying the phone
- Moving existing authenticator accounts from Google Authenticator or Aegis into a new app
- Exporting an encrypted backup so 2FA codes can be restored or moved to another authenticator
From the founder
Who it's for
“OpenFactor is for people who are wary of how their 2FA codes are stored, synced, and handled. It’s for people who want a simple, open-source authenticator with no account, no server, no tracking, and a clear security model.”
Why I built it
“I’ve been writing software for a long time and wanted an authenticator I could understand, inspect, and trust. What started as a small side project quickly turned into a much deeper security exercise than I expected.”
Who it is for
- Privacy-conscious iPhone and Apple Watch users who want 2FA codes without an account or tracking
- Security-minded users who want to inspect the source, test vectors, and review findings themselves
