About
Fer Markdown for AI is a free, lightweight WordPress plugin built by Fer Marketing, a small web development and SEO studio. It gives AI assistants and crawlers a clean way to read your site. The plugin serves an /llms.txt index that lists your pages and posts, and a Markdown version of every public post and page at the same URL plus .md, for example /services.md. Each Markdown page includes a rel=alternate discovery link in the HTML head and a canonical header pointing back to the original page, so the copies never compete with your HTML in search results. It respects Yoast and Rank Math noindex settings, can run alongside their own llms.txt, and is configured from one simple settings screen. It makes no external calls and adds no tracking, cookies, database tables or cron jobs.
Key Features
- Automatic /llms.txt index of your pages and posts
- Markdown copy of every public post and page at URL.md
- Canonical header and rel=alternate link so Markdown copies never compete in search
Use Cases
- Publishing a /llms.txt index of public WordPress pages so AI assistants can find and summarise the site accurately
- Serving clean Markdown copies of service, pricing and contact pages at URL.md so AI tools read them without HTML clutter
- Managing llms.txt and Markdown output across client WordPress sites under the agency's own brand
Who it is for
- Service business owners whose key facts are buried in page-builder layouts and want AI assistants to read them accurately.
- Digital marketing agencies managing multiple client WordPress sites.
- Site owners already using Yoast SEO's llms.txt who want only the Markdown pages.
Pricing
Fer Markdown for AI is free to use. See the website for details.
FAQ
Is the plugin free?
Yes. It is free and licensed GPLv2 or later.
Is it on WordPress.org?
Yes. It is listed in the WordPress.org plugin directory at wordpress.org/plugins/fer-markdown-for-ai, so you can install it from Plugins > Add New. You can also download the zip from this page and upload it in Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
Does it send data anywhere?
No. It makes no external requests and sets no cookies. It only reads your own published content when /llms.txt or a .md URL is requested.
I already have Yoast SEO's llms.txt. Can I still use it?
Yes. Turn off the llms.txt option in Settings > Markdown for AI and keep only the Markdown pages, so you do not publish two llms.txt files.
Will private or noindex pages appear?
No. Drafts, private and password-protected content are skipped, as are pages marked noindex in Yoast SEO or Rank Math.
Why do the .md URLs return 404?
Use pretty permalinks (Settings > Permalinks, any option except Plain) and purge any page cache or CDN once after activating.
Will this improve my Google rankings?
There is no evidence that llms.txt or Markdown copies improve Google rankings. Treat them as a convenience for AI readers, alongside a clear, fast website.
