About

Sumi reads a PDF or scan, flags personal data it finds, and lets you keep, remove or add to each item before anything is applied. The download is rebuilt as page images with the black boxes painted into the pixels, so no text layer, fonts or metadata remain to copy. Scanned pages and photos are read on the device in 30 languages, and an optional AI model that spots names the rules miss downloads once and then runs offline.

Why "Sumi"?

Sumi is the Japanese black ink that cannot be erased. It is what Sumi puts over your personal data: a mark that stays, with nothing left underneath.

Is it really free?

Yes, every feature is free for documents up to 10 pages, with no account. Pro removes the page limit for €5 a month. Already paid? Sign in with your email on each device, no password needed.

How can a website work without uploading?

Your browser is a capable computer. The PDF reader, the text recognition and the AI model all run inside the tab, the same way a web game runs on your machine.

Can redacted text be recovered from the download?

No. Every page is redrawn as an image with the boxes painted in, and the new file contains nothing else: no text layer, no fonts, no metadata, no attachments.

What can it miss?

Automatic detection helps but is not perfect, especially on poor scans and unusual formats. That is why nothing is removed until you have reviewed it, and why you can search words and draw boxes yourself.

Which files does it accept?

PDFs up to 200 MB, and images (PNG, JPEG, WebP). Photos are stripped of hidden metadata such as GPS location.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit the app is stored in your browser, so you can redact with Wi-Fi off. That is also the simplest proof that your file is never uploaded.
