About

Developers point their app at a REST endpoint, an official SDK, or the SMTP relay at smtp.groundmail.dev to send transactional messages. The service runs its own mail servers and IP space, which it uses to keep transactional mail isolated and to handle deliverability problems directly with mailbox providers. Teams that outgrow shared sending can move to dedicated IPs or a dedicated mail server without changing their code.

Key Features

  • Send single HTTP calls to /emails with idempotent sends and official SDKs
  • Relay existing apps through SMTP at smtp.groundmail.dev on port 587
  • Build versioned templates with live preview and event-triggered automations
  • Check spam, DMARC, SPF and blocklist status before and during sending
  • Upgrade to dedicated IPs or a dedicated mail server on the same API
  • Receive and parse inbound replies; catch test emails in a hosted CI inbox

Use Cases

  • Send password reset, sign-in code, receipt and alert emails from an app through an API or SMTP relay
  • Keep transactional mail on separate IPs from marketing email to protect deliverability
  • Test app emails in a hosted test inbox in CI, and monitor DMARC and blocklist status for your sending domain

Who it is for

  • App developers who need to send transactional email from their application.
  • Teams sending email on behalf of their own customers who want per-customer sub-accounts (tenants).
  • Developers building with AI agents who want to send or configure email from tools like Cursor or Claude Code via the MCP server.

Pricing

Start free with 3,000 emails a month; no charge on the Free plan. Dedicated IPs are $50/mo per IP and dedicated servers start at $299/mo.

FAQ

What does Groundmail do?

Transactional email: password resets, sign-in codes, receipts, alerts and other messages that have to arrive. Plus inbound email, webhooks, templates, automations, SMTP, SDKs for five languages, a CLI and an MCP server, on one platform.

What does it mean that you own the infrastructure?

We run our own mail servers on our own IP space, operated by a team that has run MTAs at scale and worked with Google Postmaster and Spamhaus directly. When something needs fixing, the people who can fix it are the people you emailed.

What's the difference between Pool, dedicated IPs and a dedicated server?

Pool is our shared transactional network: no marketing or cold email on those IPs. Dedicated IPs give your mail its own reputation: $50/mo per IP. They run on Scale plans, with the first one included from 500,000 emails a month, and any plan can request one. A dedicated server goes further: your own mail server and IPs, built, warmed and managed by us. Same API at every level.

Why don't you allow marketing email?

Shared IPs get dirty when someone on them sends a blast to a stale list. Keeping our IPs transactional-only means the mail next to yours is the same kind of mail: things people asked for.

Which languages have an SDK?

Official SDKs for Node/TypeScript, Python, Go, PHP (with Laravel and Symfony Mailer packages) and Ruby. They all wrap the same REST API, so anything an SDK doesn't cover is one HTTP call away, and any other language can send over the REST API or SMTP.

Do you support SMTP?

Yes. Connect to smtp.groundmail.dev on port 587 with an SMTP credential from the dashboard. Same verified domains, limits and suppressions as the HTTP API.

Can AI coding tools set it up?

Yes. Connect the Groundmail MCP server and an assistant like Claude Code or Cursor can verify domains, send test emails and check delivery for you.

What does pricing look like?

Free includes 3,000 emails a month once your domain is verified and a card is on file. Pro starts at $20/mo for 50,000 emails, Scale at $90/mo for 100,000, and a dedicated server at $299/mo.

How long until we can send?

Test sends to your own address work right away, and test keys let you build against the full API without delivering anything. For production, verify your domain (connect Cloudflare, Vercel or GoDaddy and we publish the DNS records in one click) and add a payment method, then send within your plan's limits. Dedicated setups are scheduled with our team.

Homepage is clear: a transactional email API and SMTP relay for sign-in codes, password resets, receipts and alerts, kept off marketing IPs. Free tier is 3,000 emails a month, and they say they run their own mail servers. Docs sit next to Start sending. The free plan still requires a credit card even with no charge, which blocks a quick test of password-reset mail. Dedicated IP pricing ($50/mo) shows mid-page, but the full pricing table is not on the first screen.
