Why does it need accessibility permission?
Reading the text you select and writing a translation back into an input field both go through the system's accessibility APIs — that's what makes "works in any app" possible. Microphone access is for voice input, and screen recording is for screenshot translation. All three are requested only when you first use them; skip the features and you can skip the permissions.
Do I need an account?
No. The built-in free engine works without signing in, so selection translation, compare translation and in-place replacement are available right away. Signing in only matters for the parts that need an account: AI engines, synced saves, and pronunciation scoring.
How does it relate to the Trancy browser extension?
Same account, shared saves and settings. The extension handles immersive bilingual reading on web pages; Air handles everything outside the browser. They complement each other rather than replace each other.
