Filevale

About

Each tool runs in the browser using WebAssembly, so files are processed on your own device and the page states that nothing is uploaded to a server. Tools are grouped into image, PDF, video and audio, documents, archives, and QR code categories, and a 'Choose a file' option picks the right tool automatically. Batch files and ZIP downloads are supported, and the product is also offered as an App Store download, with a Mac version listed as coming soon.

Competitors: iLovePDF, Smallpdf, CloudConvert

Key Features

  • Delivers converts HEIC photos to JPG or PNG, and images between JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF
  • Delivers merges, splits, compresses, rotates and signs PDFs directly in the browser
  • Delivers converts PDFs to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, image formats and plain text
  • Delivers opens ZIP, RAR, 7Z and TAR archives and creates new ZIP files
  • Delivers compresses MP4 videos and extracts MP3 audio from MP4 files
  • Generates QR codes for links, text and WiFi as PNG or SVG files

Use Cases

  • Turning iPhone HEIC photos into JPGs so they open on any device
  • Signing a PDF by drawing or uploading a signature and placing it on the page
  • Extracting a ZIP or RAR archive without installing separate extraction software

From the founder

Who it's for

“Anyone who needs a file in a different format or a smaller size: students uploading assignments, office workers merging, signing and compressing PDFs, and anyone opening a ZIP or RAR archive or converting a HEIC photo a website refuses. It works on iPhone and on the web, and files are never uploaded to a server.”

Why I built it

“I am Sakura5, an indie maker. I built Filevale because most file tools ask you to upload private documents to an unknown server just to convert or compress them. Filevale runs its 100+ tools on your own device or in your browser, so your files stay yours: free to use, no account, no uploads.”
— Sakura5, founder of Filevale

Who it is for

  • Privacy-conscious users who don't want their files uploaded to a server
  • iPhone users who need to convert HEIC photos to JPG or PNG
  • People who need quick PDF edits such as merging, compressing or signing

Filevale is free to use. See the website for details.

FAQ

Is Filevale really free?

Yes. Filevale is free to use right now: all 108 tools work with no watermarks, and batch processing and ZIP downloads are included.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Every Filevale tool runs inside your browser (Canvas, WebAssembly and JavaScript libraries such as pdf.js, pdf-lib and FFmpeg), so your files never leave your device. That makes Filevale safe for confidential documents, photos and recordings.

Is there a file size limit?

Filevale has no fixed file size limit: files are processed on your device, so the practical limit is your device's memory. Phones handle smaller files than laptops, and very large videos are best converted on a computer.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Filevale tools take several files at once: add them, run the tool once, then download each result or all of them as one ZIP.

Can I open RAR, 7Z and ZIP files?

Yes. Filevale's archive tools open ZIP (also password-protected), RAR 4 and RAR 5, 7Z, TAR, GZ and XZ files in your browser with libarchive compiled to WebAssembly, let you pick which files to extract, and create ZIP (optionally with an AES-256 password) and TAR.GZ archives. Encrypted RAR and 7Z archives and split archives are not supported yet, and RAR files can't be created.

Which devices and browsers work?

Filevale works in any modern browser: Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android, with nothing to install.
