What each action is worth

X open-sourced the For You ranking weights in home-mixer/params/param.rs (Apache 2.0). Copying a link scores 20; a reply or quote is 5; a follow is 4; a repost is 1; a like is 0.5. Opening a link is only 0.2.

Penalties dwarf boosts: a report is −234, a mute −58.8, not interested −43.2, a block −31.2. One report costs more than four hundred likes make back in the weight table.

How For You ranks posts

Three stages. Candidate retrieval gathers posts from people you follow and from what models think you would want. A Grok-based ranker scores what you are likely to do; the published weights turn those predictions into one number. Visibility filters run last and can drop or downrank posts.

Attribution

This Mini App uses ranking weights and filter references from github.com/xai-org/x-algorithm under the Apache License 2.0. Heuristic checks are labeled when they are not a literal rule in that repo. Public timelines are read via the Launch Llama HQ X app.

What this does not do

  • Weights multiply predicted action probabilities in X’s ranker, not raw engagement counts. Treat points as relative fitness, not a live impression forecast.
  • Timelines are read with Launch Llama HQ’s X API credentials. Protected or empty accounts cannot be scanned.
  • Checks labeled “heuristic” are approximations grounded in nearby repo rules, not literal string matches in production.
  • A free Launch Llama account is required. One scan per user per UTC day. Handles are cached for 24 hours to protect X API quota.

What did X open-source?
On 13 August 2026 X put the code behind the For You feed on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 licence. It includes home-mixer (which assembles and ranks the timeline), the parameter file holding the weight every action is worth, and the visibility filters that decide what quietly gets folded away.
How does the For You algorithm rank posts?
Three stages. It gathers candidates from the people you follow and from what its models think you would want to see. A Grok-based ranker then scores every candidate for what you are likely to do with it, and the published weights turn those predictions into one number. Whatever survives that goes past the visibility filters last.
How much is each action worth on X?
Somebody copying your link is 20. A reply is 5, a quote is 5, a share by DM is 5. A follow is 4, a repost is 1, and a like is 0.5. So one reply moves you as far as ten likes do, and a reply between two people who follow each other lands at 20 (ReplyWeight 5 + BidirectionalFollowReplyWeightBoost 15).
What hurts your reach the most?
The punishments dwarf anything you can earn. A report is −234, a mute is −58.8, a not interested is −43.2, a block is −31.2. One report costs more than four hundred likes make back, which makes not being annoying the cheapest reach on the list.
Why do posts with links get less reach?
Opening your link scores 0.2. Copying it to send to somebody scores 20. The feed pays a hundred times more for the link that gets passed on than for the one that gets clicked, so a post whose only job is to send people away earns almost nothing while it does it.
Does posting more often help?
Not the way most people assume. This scan applies a heuristic: each subsequent post in a window is halved, down to a quarter. Home-mixer also drops already-served candidates for the viewer, so three posts inside half an hour mostly compete with each other.
Am I shadowbanned on X?
What people call a shadowban is largely the visibility filters, and those are in the open code now (visibility-filtering + home-mixer/filters + scarecrow bots). This scan runs your recent public posts against checks grounded in that code and labels anything that is only an approximation.
How do you get into For You?
Write posts people answer. The ranker pays ten times more for a reply than for a like, and another 20 for a link somebody copies to send on. Then answer the people who answered you — a reply between mutuals is the best-paid thing on the list.
What does the scan need from me?
A free Launch Llama account and a public X handle. We read posts anybody can already see via Launch Llama HQ. One scan per day. We never ask for your X password and cannot post as you.
